Hagen A1470 Fluval Pre- Filter Media
Fluval Pre-Filter Media
For use in all Fluval Canister Filters but also ideal for all other filters
For both Freshwater and Marine use
Fluval Pre-Filter consists of inert, solid ceramic rings used to trap large and medium solid particles before they clog the finer sieves of the modules above. This prevents premature clogging of finer filters and extends their life, reducing media replacement frequency.
The diversified water flow allows establishment of biological activity on the surface of the rings, adding to the overall biological action on ammonia and nitrite.

Hagen Fluval Biomax
Fluval BioMax
Biological Filter Media
- Maximum surface area for bacterial colonisation
- Promotes efficient water flow
- Improves biological filter performance
Fluval BioMax is an extremely versatile, effective filter media suitable for both fresh and marine water aquariums. Maximum biological filtration is achieved when Fluval BioMax is positioned after pre-filtration.
Fluval BioMax's unique manufacturing process provides enormous surface area with appropriate pore and tunnel dimensions to support various essential bacteria. Micro-Tunnels comprise 85% of the Fluval BioMax pore volume, providing oxygen to nitrifying bacteria, ensuring rapid removal of toxic ammonia and nitrite. Micro-Cavities account for 15% of the internal pore volume, providing habitat for other species of bacteria, which require oxygen poor conditions to optimise water quality.
Instructions:
- Rinse Fluval BioMax to remove dust and trapped air from within the rings
- Place in filter system, preferably after pre-filtration stage
- Inoculate filter rings with cycle, simply pour the recommended dosage for you aquariums volume on the Fluval BioMax
- Periodically rinse Fluval BioMax with water removed from the aquarium to eliminate any accumulating organic deposits
- Every three months replace half the Fluval BioMax. This will ensure optimal biological filtration
Now also available in a bigger, better value 1100gm size

Hagen A1445 Activated Carbon Fluval
Fluval Ultra Grade Carbon
Highly Activated - Absorbs liquefied impurities, removes dyes, medications and odours.
Fluval UltraGrade carbon has been specifically manufactured for aquarium filtration of fresh and marine environments. the internal cell matrix is able to absorb most liquefied impurities and dyes present in aquarium water. Each granule of Fluval UltraGrade Carbon consists of fine, pure carbon granules; it contains no phosphates and will not change pH of aquarium water.
Directions
Fluval Filter Carbon is ideally suited as a fine water scrub and is best placed in low or medium modules. By placing before any biologically specific media, the UltraGrade carbon provides a fine strainer to remove tiny particles and impurities before they can clog the delicate pores and surfaces of bacterial substrates. Fluval UltraGrade Carbon granules are smaller than the Fluval module bottom grid to prevent it from falling through. Use sufficient carbon to fill the module.
Rinse Thoroughly to remove fine dust. before replacing recharged module in filter, submerse carbon for a few minutes to eliminate air trapped within its internal matrix. This eliminates bubbles within the filter. Reassemble filter for operation. Fluval UltraGrade Carbon should be changed once it fails to remove odour and colour from aquarium water. To ensure complete filtration efficiency, monthly or bi-monthly change is recommended, depending on population density.
Note: Do not replace all filter materials simultaneously. Stagger bacterial replacement to ensure that the bacterial population remain viable allowing for rapid re seeding of the filter. When combined with regular water changes, media replacement is most effective. Rinse any media to be re-used in discarded aquarium water as tap water often contains harmful chlorine and/or chlorine that can kill valuable populations of beneficial bacteria.

Hagen Fluval Ammonia Remover
Fluval Ammonia Remover
For FRESHWATER use ONLY
Fluval Ammonia Remover is a unique ion exchange material which rids freshwater aquariums of poisonous ammonia. High levels of ammonia result in extremely hazardous water conditions for aquarium fish. Fluval Ammonia Remover is rechargeable in a brine solution and thus is not suitable for marine environments.
Directions:
Rinse thoroughly to remove small particles. Fluval Ammonia Remover has been placed in a filter bag (A1480) or may require a filter bag to be placed into (A1485) this is to prevent the Fluval Ammonia Remover falling in to the lower chambers of the filter (filter bags available separately). Use enough bags to fill the filter module. Fluval Ammonia Remover can be used in any module, but is most effective when placed above most of the straining media so the water flow is pure and will not cover it with fine wastes. Each 180 gram bag treats about 15 gallons of water. Change or recharge bi weekly. To recharge, soak in a strong brine solution for 24 hours and rinse thoroughly.
Note: Do not replace all filter materials simultaneously. Stagger media replacement to ensure that the bacterial populations remain viable allowing for rapid seeding of the filter. When combined with regular water changes, media replacement is most effective. Rinse any media to be reused in discarded aquarium water as tap water often contains harmful chlorine and/or chloramine that can kill valuable populations of beneficial bacteria.
A-1480 Ammonia Remover is supplied as 3 x 180gm ready to use pouches in mesh filter bags
